Buffalo Hunt!

Here we go...... Brad puts my name in for all of these hunts and apparently I am pretty lucky and draw out for some pretty cool hunts! Do I LOVE hunting? It is not my favorite thing to do, but I do LOVE being with Brad and enjoy seeing the beautiful country and I love seeing how excited Brad gets when we kill something! So the story goes..........

It was our second day of hunting and it had just snowed the night before. We were told that there were two bulls down in this area on the refuge! On the refuge you can only enter one entrance and you lave to exit at that same place. So that makes it tricky. So we head out at about 1:30 in the afternoon and Andy Misner was with us! We started walking up these crazy hills with about 6 inches of freshly fallen snow on the ground! We hunted looking for tracks and weren't having very good luck so after about 6 miles we decided it was getting late and we were going to head for the truck! We start heading out and we get to the road and there was HIS track! We hesitated because it was getting late but Andy said he came all this way and he wanted to see some action! So we followed it for about an mile and he was crossing over the river and he would come back across! So we see some fresh sings and were getting excited. We go about another 25 yards and we drop to the ground. He was right there in front of us! He saw us but didn't seem to care! So I got ready and had to wait for him to turn. He finally turned and I shot one shot and he walked about 5 yards, he was hurt but not dead! So I shot again and he dropped to the ground! It was quite a rush and we were all pretty excited! It was almost dark and Brad was up to his shoulders when he was gutting out that buffalo. He was HUGE!

So we get it gutted and have to go all the way back to the truck in the dark, it was interesting! It took Dave, Dwayne, Brad, Melissa, and myself to pack that thing out of the refuge. You only have certain access roads that will get you close to where you shot it but you can not drive right up to it! So we got as close as we could and had to drag that thing in quarters to get it back to the truck! We were all exhausted by the time we were done! It was quite the experience and it was fun!!
